Dress Up

10 Best Dressed Women at the Golden Globes

I love sitting and watching awards shows where the world’s most famous celebrities walk down the red carpet, showcasing their amazing dresses and hair.  I can’t even begin to imagine how much time goes into getting ready for one of these shows.  As someone who loves fashion, I certainly appreciate the time and energy they put into being ‘Red Carpet Ready,’ but I appreciate it from the comfort of my couch…in my pajamas…with a glass of wine.

I have my top 10 fashion picks from the Golden Globes:

1.  Julianne Moore

Julianne Moore in Givenchy Couture

I really, really love this dress.  The ombre is perfect, and then when it is paired with sequins and feathers, you couldn’t ask for a more fabulous combo.  Julianne Moore looked absolutely stunning, AND she got Eric Wilson’s vote for best dressed!

2.  Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon in Calvin Klein

I love Reese Witherspoon.  Ever since she starred in Legally Blonde as the legendary Elle Woods, she has been at the top of my list of favorite actresses.  I have yet to see a movie with her in it that I didn’t like.  Sure, there were some that made me sad (i.e. Water for Elephants) but her ability to portray characters is flawless.  Speaking of flawless, can we talk about this dress?  The silver goes perfectly with her classic blond hair, creating a timeless look that is perfect for the Red Carpet.

3.  Amal Clooney

Amal Clooney in Dior

Hearts broke around the world when George Clooney got married, but I have to say, she is definitely a match for him.  I can’t even be sad that the 53-year-old is no longer a bachelor.  She is absolutely stunning.

4.  Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad

I’m not usually one to say that showing a lot of skin looks good, but J. Lo has knocked it out of the park.  She looks incredible, without it being too much.  If someone had described this dress/ensemble to me, I probably would have winced a little bit, but she pulls it off very gracefully.  I also have to make a comment about her shoes.  I’m pretty much obsessed with them.  This style of shoe is definitely on the top of my list for trends of 2015, and I like hers even more because they have some sparkle to them!

5.  Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson

This is a dress that can only be pulled off by Kate Hudson.  I swear, you can’t see any lines or anything.  If I tried to wear something like this, it would be bunching and lining all over the place.  The white looks fabulous on her and I love the cutouts on the side.  Is this Darcy Rhone or what?

6.  Amy Adams

Amy Adams in Versace

Amy Adams has a very traditional, vintage charm about her in this dress.  Especially paired with the hair.  It sort of reminds me of a modern-day spin on fashion from the 1940s.  The ruching and pleats are so flattering and make her look tiny, while still accenting her natural curves.  Also, did you notice that her shoes match?

7.  Salma Hayek

Salma Hayek in Alexander McQueen

I love that her dress is white, textured and belted.  I love anything belted, I think it adds a little extra something to any outfit.  And the texture of her dress is perfect, with the cream color being a perfect compliment to her skin tone and hair.  I wonder what’s in her bag?  I’ve also wondered why more celebrities don’t carry bags.  What do they do with all of their stuff?

8.  Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston in Saint Laurent

Jennifer Aniston just gets more fabulous with age.  This black dress is incredibly flattering and makes her arms look great!  And again, with the shoe style I love.

9.  Greer Grammer

Golden Globes

I’ve never seen anything with Greer Grammer in it, but I loved her dress from the moment I saw it.  First, it’s pink.  Second, it’s sparkly.  And third, it is a ballgown.  Really.  I love the dress, and her hair really looks great.  (also, she has a purse too!)

10.  Leslie Mann

Golden Globes

Leslie Mann is quickly rising to the top of my list of favorite actresses.  She is hilarious!  Did anyone see ‘The Other Woman?’  I mean, really.  I could not stop laughing.  Even thinking about it, I’m chuckling.  She seriously rocked the yellow dress, which I know is hard to do.  It could easily go the Big Bird route, but she pulled it off perfectly.  I am also loving the ombre in her hair.

Did anyone else watch the Golden Globes?  I feel like I should mention George Clooney’s speech and how he included a bit about his wife.  It was really, really sweet and definitely made me have that much more respect for him.

Lilly for Target

Have you heard?  Lilly Pulitzer is collaborating with Target for their Spring line.  Could I be more excited?  Probably not.  This has to be one of the all-time best collaborations Target has ever unleashed.  There will be more than 250 items in the collection (almost 200 of which are going to be less than $30!!), with pieces ranging from clothing to home goods.

I love the cheerful combination of colors and patterns that is so characteristic of the brand.  All of the prints are so happy and warm.  The clothes are incredibly well made and fit perfectly.  Thanks to my mom, I’ve been wearing Lilly since I was a little girl when she and I would wear matching ensembles.

They have everything from swim suits and dresses to beach chairs and bottle stoppers.  This line is about to be a Lilly lover’s dream come true.

The line will be released on April 19.  I’m currently planning my vacation days for the year, and I am seriously debating adding this one to the list so I can be first in line to see all of the goodies they have lining the shelves and hanging on the racks.  I’m already dreaming of the dresses, shoes, pants and home decor.  Now all we have to do is wait…

The official hashtag is: #lillyfortarget

@LillyforTarget is a great Instagram account that offers sneak peaks and fun facts.  This is definitely an Instagram you are going to want to follow.

This is going to be a very colorful spring!  Let the countdown begin!

C. Wonder Steals

C. Wonder at Southpoint Mall in Durham was having a HUGE 75% off sale and, of course, I couldn’t resist.  I love C.Wonder, but hate to pay full price for anything, so when the entire store was on sale I was all over that.  I’ve been eyeing some of their smoking loafers for a while and I really like the look of their totes.

1.  I’ve been dying to get their ‘Southern Belle’ loafers, but had two problems.  One, they were $148, and two, they didn’t have my size, sigh.  So I scoured the internet in search of a pair that someone might have bought and then decided to sell, but it was to no avail, so I gave up.  THEN when this sale started happening I decided to give it one final shot and lo and behold, the shoes on display were my size! So, you can guess the end of this story, but I ended up getting the shoes and I couldn’t be happier about it.

Seriously, aren’t they adorable?

2.  Large Navy Tote

With my upcoming trip to NYC I’ve been trying to decide what kind of bag to use as my ‘personal’ since I am trying to not have to check a bag.  I wanted something large, but easy, that I could zip and carry a lot of stuff inside.  For a while, I thought I would just take my large vintage Dooney, but it is just so heavy, even when it is empty, so I was struggling with that decision since I’m going to be walking around quite a lot.  This tote is the perfect alternative.  It is cute and relaxed, easily dressed up or down, so I’m excited to load all my gear inside and head to the airport.

2.  Bee Happy

I love these and they are the perfect addition to my wardrobe, as well as a sweet reminder for my to look on the bright side of things, as I mentioned in my 2015 post!  Plus, they are can be worn in any season!

3.  Small Black Tote

I’ve been needing a good everyday bag, and I really like the Longchamp bags, but I wasn’t completely ready to make that huge of an investment.  I like the way they look, but I wasn’t quite ready to take the plunge.  This is the perfect alternative and I really like the decorative C on the front, it adds a nice little embellishment 🙂

Fall Fashion

I am so looking forward to tights, scarves, coats and boots this fall!  I am just getting ready to put all of my summer clothes away and unpack my fall favorites.  I love feeling cozy with oversized sweaters and a cup of coffee. At 10:29 pm, we will officially begin the fall season, and I could not be happier!  I’ve been scouring the pages of Pinterest for fall fashion inspiration and I am ready to break out the attire for the season!

Modern Day Breakfast At Tiffany’s

Audrey Hepburn’s ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ is a classic movie that has found it’s way into the hearts of many women across the country.  I LOVE Audrey Hepburn, especially in this movie.  I love the character, Holly Golightly.  She is so optimistic and has the most elegant sense of fashion.  Her classic black dress, oversized hat and many layers of pearls have inspired women’s fashion since the movie first came out.  While it may not be completely feasible to dress like this in 2014 for work, shopping or otherwise, there is a way to use it as inspiration and adapt it to fit into the modern fashion world.  I’m not going to lie, there are some situations where I am very tempted to don a huge black at and extra large sunglasses and go shopping, and I may or may not have actually done it Audrey style a time or two.  But, unfortunately, I can’t do it on a regular basis, so I have to settle for a modernized look.

The Dilemma With Shoes

It has recently been brought to my attention that I shouldn’t wear my nice shoes when I am going to and from places, visiting the grocery store or just walking around town.  I have always been one to wear my nice shoes out because I figure, what is the point of having them if I’m just going to wear flip flops when people see me?  Thus the internal debate ensues.

Pros and Cons of Wearing Your Nice Shoes

People See Them

The whole point of wearing cute shoes is that you want people to see them, so why not wear them all day.  Hey, you never know who you may run into on your morning Starbucks visit.

You Feel Great

There is a lot to be said about feeling great with the way you look.  For me, I don’t feel complete without my heels.

Your Outfit Always Looks Complete

Flip flops really just don’t cut it with your pencil skirt.  I, personally, never want to get caught with my outfit looking less than complete.

They Wear Out Faster

Scuffs, scratches and dings oh my!  Seriously, wearing nice shoes all the time really does lend itself to causing you to have to buy more shoes more often.  It’s hard to continue to wear shoes when they don’t look top notch, and wearing them all the time really does make them wear out faster.

Your Feet Start to Hurt

Let’s be honest.  Heels generally make something hurt by the end of the day.  Whether it is your toes, ankles, legs or feet in general, heels just aren’t always comfortable.

You Don’t Have a Spare Pair

What if it starts randomly raining and you don’t have that pair of flip flops with you?  What do you do to preserve your pumps?  I’m not one to run around barefoot, so I’ve been known to throw trash bags and rubber bands on to keep my feet dry.  It may not be cute, but it gets the job done when I’m trying to get from the office to my car.

What are your thoughts on wearing shoes out and about all the time? I seriously can’t decide.  I see the benefits of both sides!

Happy Labor Day

Happy Labor Day!

Gone are the days of white pants and seersucker and coming are the crisp fall mornings, pumpkin spice everything and cinnamon accents all across town.  I love fall!  I tend to miss the mountains as fall approaches because the Piedmont doesn’t have such drastic and apparent season changes!  This weekend, we made some Pumpkin Spice Pancakes with Vanilla Spice Syrup…PERFECT way to begin the “fall.”  I bought the pumpkin spice pancake mix at the Farmer’s Market a few weeks ago and have just been letting it sit in my pantry until the time came to make it!

Now that I can finally, acceptably, celebrate the beginnings of fall things I am so excited!  Here are some of my favorite things of fall!

1.  Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL)

Pumpkin Spice Latte

Number one on the list, and with good reason.  Starbucks PSLs are such a huge staple in my fall repertoire.  I allot calories in the day just for this.  Extra whipped cream and a little cinnamon on top make this the perfect sweet tooth fix for fall.

2.  Duck Boots

LOVE my Duck Boots

Hallelujah, it is Duck Boot Season again.  Well, almost.  These shoes are seriously the most comfortable shoes ever.  They are super warm and totally durable.  If you don’t have a pair, you should definitely order one before winter comes.  Seriously.

3.  Scarves

BFF Jennie

My best friend has so many cute infiniti scarves and I love to see how she wears all of them.  To me, it isn’t fall unless you’ve got on a pair of boots a scarf and a drink in your hand.

4.  Pumpkin Bread

When I was younger I made so much pumpkin bread one fall that we had to wait a couple of years before we could fully enjoy it again.  We definitely indulged and got a little tired of it, but it is back with a vengeance!

5.  Football

BFFs dress alike. Especially to tailgates.

Tailgates are my favorite part of football season: you get to dress up, hang out with friends and feel the comradry of sharing a mutual love of a team.  Seriously the best.  I can’t wait to go back to Boone to celebrate my Alma Mater 🙂

6.  Leaves

View from my parent’s mountain house ❤

The mountains of North Carolina seriously have the best display of leaves.  The colors are so rich and crisp, accompanied with the weather, it’s hard not to feel like you’re falling for fall.

7.  Corduroy

I love my cords.  They are warm and comfortable and come in so many different colors.  Plus, they are often more comfortable than jeans, which is always a plus.

8.  Cow Boy Boots

Football, weekend outing, jeans, dress, skirt, etc.  They are perfect for just about any occasion, and the best part is, you don’t have to worry about messing them up, because the more worn in they are the better they look!

9.  Pumpkin Patching

Every year, my family goes to a pumpkin patch to pick out our perfect pumpkin.  Then we each take our choice home and carve it and roast the seeds.  There is nothing like the smell of a fresh cut pumpkin!

10.  Halloween

Any excuse I have to get dressed up is good enough for me.

What are some fall traditions you are looking forward to?
