Dress Up

The Dilemma With Shoes

It has recently been brought to my attention that I shouldn’t wear my nice shoes when I am going to and from places, visiting the grocery store or just walking around town.  I have always been one to wear my nice shoes out because I figure, what is the point of having them if I’m just going to wear flip flops when people see me?  Thus the internal debate ensues.

Pros and Cons of Wearing Your Nice Shoes

Pros:
People See Them

The whole point of wearing cute shoes is that you want people to see them, so why not wear them all day.  Hey, you never know who you may run into on your morning Starbucks visit.

You Feel Great

There is a lot to be said about feeling great with the way you look.  For me, I don’t feel complete without my heels.

Your Outfit Always Looks Complete

Flip flops really just don’t cut it with your pencil skirt.  I, personally, never want to get caught with my outfit looking less than complete.

Cons:

They Wear Out Faster

Scuffs, scratches and dings oh my!  Seriously, wearing nice shoes all the time really does lend itself to causing you to have to buy more shoes more often.  It’s hard to continue to wear shoes when they don’t look top notch, and wearing them all the time really does make them wear out faster.

Your Feet Start to Hurt

Let’s be honest.  Heels generally make something hurt by the end of the day.  Whether it is your toes, ankles, legs or feet in general, heels just aren’t always comfortable.

You Don’t Have a Spare Pair

What if it starts randomly raining and you don’t have that pair of flip flops with you?  What do you do to preserve your pumps?  I’m not one to run around barefoot, so I’ve been known to throw trash bags and rubber bands on to keep my feet dry.  It may not be cute, but it gets the job done when I’m trying to get from the office to my car.

What are your thoughts on wearing shoes out and about all the time? I seriously can’t decide.  I see the benefits of both sides!

Happy Labor Day

Happy Labor Day!

Gone are the days of white pants and seersucker and coming are the crisp fall mornings, pumpkin spice everything and cinnamon accents all across town.  I love fall!  I tend to miss the mountains as fall approaches because the Piedmont doesn’t have such drastic and apparent season changes!  This weekend, we made some Pumpkin Spice Pancakes with Vanilla Spice Syrup…PERFECT way to begin the “fall.”  I bought the pumpkin spice pancake mix at the Farmer’s Market a few weeks ago and have just been letting it sit in my pantry until the time came to make it!

Now that I can finally, acceptably, celebrate the beginnings of fall things I am so excited!  Here are some of my favorite things of fall!

1.  Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL)

Number one on the list, and with good reason.  Starbucks PSLs are such a huge staple in my fall repertoire.  I allot calories in the day just for this.  Extra whipped cream and a little cinnamon on top make this the perfect sweet tooth fix for fall.

2.  Duck Boots

LOVE my Duck Boots

Hallelujah, it is Duck Boot Season again.  Well, almost.  These shoes are seriously the most comfortable shoes ever.  They are super warm and totally durable.  If you don’t have a pair, you should definitely order one before winter comes.  Seriously.

3.  Scarves

BFF Jennie

My best friend has so many cute infiniti scarves and I love to see how she wears all of them.  To me, it isn’t fall unless you’ve got on a pair of boots a scarf and a drink in your hand.

4.  Pumpkin Bread

When I was younger I made so much pumpkin bread one fall that we had to wait a couple of years before we could fully enjoy it again.  We definitely indulged and got a little tired of it, but it is back with a vengeance!

5.  Football

BFFs dress alike. Especially to tailgates.

Tailgates are my favorite part of football season: you get to dress up, hang out with friends and feel the comradry of sharing a mutual love of a team.  Seriously the best.  I can’t wait to go back to Boone to celebrate my Alma Mater 🙂

6.  Leaves

The mountains of North Carolina seriously have the best display of leaves.  The colors are so rich and crisp, accompanied with the weather, it’s hard not to feel like you’re falling for fall.

7.  Corduroy

I love my cords.  They are warm and comfortable and come in so many different colors.  Plus, they are often more comfortable than jeans, which is always a plus.

8.  Cow Boy Boots

Football, weekend outing, jeans, dress, skirt, etc.  They are perfect for just about any occasion, and the best part is, you don’t have to worry about messing them up, because the more worn in they are the better they look!

9.  Pumpkin Patching

Every year, my family goes to a pumpkin patch to pick out our perfect pumpkin.  Then we each take our choice home and carve it and roast the seeds.  There is nothing like the smell of a fresh cut pumpkin!

Any excuse I have to get dressed up is good enough for me.

What are some fall traditions you are looking forward to?

Stacks

Can I just take a moment to talk about how obsessed with stacks I am?  I keep my own pretty standard, meaning I wear the same stack all the time.  But I love looking at other girls’ stacks.  Each person’s stack is unique to them, and most of the time the bracelets tell a story.  What a trendy way to tell a story, right?

My stack is filled with my favorite Betsey Johnson watch (I never really joined the Michael Kohrs watch trend), a bracelet with ‘525159’ engraved on it (it’s the code shared by my best friends and I) and the Pandora bracelet my parents gave me for high school graduation.

I like to peruse Pinterest to see what other people wear on their wrists.  Here are some of my favorites!

A Delicate Edge

I love this one because it has the edgy spike bracelets, which are complemented with delicate, lace-like bracelets and a simple watch.  It is a full wrist, without being overpowering.

Everything about these stacks reminds me of Ralph Lauren.  It’s probably the smooth combination of the beige cowl-neck sweater sand the brown and gold accessories.  Or maybe it is the chunky gold bracelet with the matching ring.  Either way, I love everything about the accessories and the sweater.

Pretty In Pink

If Elle Woods existed in 2013, this would be the stack she would wear.  Everything about this screams ‘Legally Blonde’.  Can’t you imagine her doing the bend-and-snap in this?  The softness of the bow, the pink and gold and the fierce spikes make this stack worthy of even the girliest girl.

New to stacks?  My recommendation is starting with a nice watch and adding bracelets that complement one another, as well as the watch.  You also want to wear something that represents you, it is your wrist after all 🙂

How do you wear your stack: Is it composed of sentimental items, or do you change it out based on your outfit?  I’d love to see!
